Chicago Latino Dance Festival

The International Latino Cultural Center of Chicago proudly presents the first ever Chicago Latino Dance Festival, a four-week celebration of the rich variety and versatility of Iberoamerican dance and of Chicago’s thriving dance scene.

The first date for this festival will be held on September at the Reva and David Logan Center for the Arts, 915 E 60th St. Sunday, September 17. Clinard Dance performs at 5:30p Sept 17th check it out; it’s free. Click here for more info.

World Music Festival Chicago

Featuring 10 consecutive days of live, global music, World Music Festival Chicago returns with 34 bands (including three DJs) representing 22 countries, including 10 local music groups. For its 23rd year of programming, the festival features performances in 11 indoor and outdoor venues across Chicago. Guests can experience the sounds of world music and its subgenres from diverse geographical regions including Brazil, South Korea, and Senegal. Free admission.

Clinard Dance’s Flamenco Quartet Project is pleased to return to Space in conjunction with Instituto Cervantes' annual Chicago Flamenco Festival. This past year was dedicated to connecting the flamenco perspective to local artists from jazz, blues, and hip-hop backgrounds. We've learned that flamenco is a foundation for understanding authentic blues, jazz and spoken word styles and traditions. Featuring jazz vocalist Joan Collaso, rapper King Moosa, flamenco percussionist Diego Alvarez, blues artist Billy Branch, flamenco guitar Marija Temo, flamenco singer Jose Diaz “Cachito”, vocalist Patty Ortega, and dancer Wendy Clinard. For tickets click here.

April 14th at 7:00 PM — in person and lived-streamed fundraiser for Ukraine organized by pianist Andrius Zlabys and Yaira Matyakubova, and featuring our dancer Wendy Clinard, artists Susan Clinard and The Haven String Quartet.

The concert will take place in person at Music Haven (315 Peck St, Building #5, New Haven, CT) and live-streamed on April 14th at 7:00 PM.

Students of Wendy Clinard and Marija Temo ( guitarist, singers and dancers) will gather from all corners of the United States to share their flamenco studies. Clinard Dance and Japanese photographer Akito Tsuda team up to create an interdisciplinary work based on Akito's photos of Chicago's Pilsen neighborhood in the early 1990's. The static discipline of photography and moving disciplines of Flamenco music and dance work like a jigsaw puzzle shifting the foreground and background continuously; the art forms are different but the key is that something gets shared and there’s a richer sense of each other individually, artistically and culturally. This work was workshopped in Chicago in Nov 2017 alongside Akito's photos. Join us April 8th at 3 and 4p at The National Museum Of Mexican Fine Arts for a "work in progress" performance alongside a photo exhibit of Akito's. FREE.

Clinard Dance is pleased to partner with Cultura in Pilsen in bringing Japanese photographer Akito Tsuda back to Pilsen.  Tsuda’s photos of Pilsen in the 1990’s challenged Chicagoans to see the beauty, value and sanity of everyday people doing everyday things like: families sitting on stoops, lifting someone out of a wheelchair, kids playing ball in the street, two ladies helping each other carry groceries. Clinard Dance will perform excerpts from their work in progress in 15min intervals from 7-10p on Nov 4th at La Catrina Cafe, 1011 W.18th St..  Akito's photos of the tailor shop, the shoemaker, and the smiling lady at the laundry tug at the heart and inspire the percussive footwork of flamenco to join with the rhythms of the sewing machine. They invite a dancer to turn and jump, waking us up to our shared humanity, to celebrate the beautiful, ordinary, and everyday neighborhood of Pilsen. In conjunction with Chicago Arts District's 2nd Friday, Clinard Dance opens its doors to feature two long standing collaborators with Clinard Dance: violinist/composer Steve Gibons and writer/painter Dmitry Samarov in an evening of visual and performing arts. 

Flexible in size and repertory, Clinard Dance contracts to a duo format as Wendy Clinard and Steve Gibons share their new original composition for dance and violin inspired by repetition, repetition, repetition within a traditional 12-count rhythm flamenco structure. By repeating, by pushing through the movements and sounds (doing it again; 5 times; 20 times) we find the phrases becoming more sincere and offering an opening into each next moment in composition. Dmitry will show sketches of Clinard Dance rehearsals as well as other recent work.
